Proinflammatory phenotype of perivascular adipocytes: influence of high-fat feeding. Circ Res 2009;104:541-9

Chatterjee TK, Stoll LL, Denning GM et al.

In this study, Chatterjee TK et al. demonstrated that human perivascular adipocytes originate from distinct progenitor cells and exhibit reduced differentiation and an exacerbated proinflammatory state. Moreover, in mice, they found that a high-fat feeding generated reductions in adipocyte-associated gene expression and upregulated proinflammatory gene expression. These results suggest that perivascular adipocytes may link metabolic signals to inflammation in the blood vessel wall.
